The Quillayute Valley School District board approved plans to send Phase 1 of the Spartan Ballfields project to bid, clearing the way to advertise the project and solicit construction bids.
Architect Jay Hansen and project staff described both fields as turf with a small restroom/scoreboard booth and an 8-inch culvert and wetland drainage to manage stormwater. The presentation noted a $1,200,000 Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) grant and flagged that some field lighting and dugout items are alternates that RCO will not fund. Project timeline: non-mandatory walk-through July 8, bid opening July 22, low-bid recommendation to the board July 28, notice to proceed July 29, and substantial completion targeted for Aug. 27, 2027. Project leads cautioned that final cost depends on bid results and inflation.
Board member motions to approve the Phase 1 plans were seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said turf procurement will aim to use cooperative purchasing (KCDA/Sourcewell) to lower costs and that turf installation would likely occur in 2027 even if the contract is signed earlier.
