PAC recommends possible closures, DLI consolidation; board to review in November and December

Planning and Boundaries Director Steve Hogan presented the Population Analysis Committee’s recommendations, which include potential closure of Orchard and Redwood elementary schools and proposed boundary adjustments affecting Wilson and Lincoln elementaries. Hogan said maps presented at recent community meetings show the possible closures and boundary scenarios and that PAC will gather further family feedback in impacted neighborhoods before returning recommendations to the board in November and December.
The PAC also proposed consolidating the Spanish dual-language immersion (DLI) program from four sites into two: Stansbury would remain a DLI site, Hillsdale’s DLI would be removed, and Valley Crest would convert to a magnet Spanish DLI with traditional students moved to Monroe and parts of Armstrong’s boundary adjusted into Monroe. Superintendent Benjamin Horsley noted these are PAC final recommendations and that PAC will hold meetings in the affected communities before presenting final recommendations to the board.
