Resident asks whether panic-button app will be mandatory and seeks district data access

At the public-comment portion of the Aug. 3 Huntington Union Free School District Board of Education meeting, resident Sajidah Safari asked whether the RAFE panic-button app is mandatory for teachers and suggested placing it on district devices in classrooms to broaden access.

"I have a question about Rafe," Safari said. She told the board she believed the app is installed on personal devices and asked whether the district could provide a school device so every teacher would have access and training. Safari also said she was having difficulty finding district-provided statistics on school performance and expressed concern that a substantial number of families opt out of state tests, which can complicate interpretation of results.

Administrators responded by noting training and availability of the application; no new mandate or device-provision policy was announced during the meeting. The board did not take formal action on the questions raised; administrators directed residents to district web resources for posted documents and said they would continue to share information about district data availability.
