Council hears how HB212 bonuses are funded and Granite’s local contribution

Presenter explained HB212 pays a bonus to teachers in high-poverty schools (about 70% free/reduced-lunch threshold) but that state funding does not fully cover the program. "The funding has not increased, but the number of districts participating has, but our school board values this program and continues to fund what the state doesn’t cover (approximately 62% covered by Granite)," the presenter stated.
The district also described non-monetary recognition for growth, including traveling trophies for the top six elementary schools, two junior highs and the top high school for High MGP and Highest Improved Proficiency, presented at a board meeting each fall. SCCs were encouraged to consider LAND Trust spending that builds teacher capacity as a lever to improve proficiency.
