Wink-Loving ISD's board approved a calendar amendment on March 20 to designate April 25, May 2 and May 9, 2025 as student/teacher holidays by applying accumulated waiver minutes.
Administration explained the district has surplus instructional minutes after applying waiver days and other adjustments. The minutes show total minutes of 76,295 versus required minutes of 75,600, and a calculation that would leave 905 extra minutes if the proposed holidays were approved. Trustee Raymond Dodd moved to amend the calendar to make the three dates student/teacher holidays; Trustee Carrie Purcell seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The change was presented in the context of minimizing conflicts with regional events (Regional Academic UIL, state track meet and senior activities) and allowing students and staff scheduling flexibility around prom and academic competitions.
