Parents and staff raised repeated concerns about inconsistent discipline, verbal abuse of teachers and what some described as ineffective consequences. One parent asked why students allowed to verbally abuse teachers are not expelled and said detention appears to have little deterrent effect. Commenters suggested consulting other districts to learn successful approaches, holding meetings with students to identify causes of behavior, and revisiting PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports).
Speakers also asked for clearer expectations so teachers feel supported in enforcing classroom rules. Several attendees urged that discipline be individualized rather than applied to whole classes when a few students misbehave.
