Flambeau board deadlocks on budget, later adopts the 2024–25 budget after additional discussion

On Oct. 23 the Flambeau School District Board of Education first considered a motion to approve the 2024–25 budget that resulted in a tie and failed, then later reconvened discussion and adopted the budget unanimously.
The initial motion to approve the budget (moved by Laura Dutter-Nelson and seconded by Doug Verdegan) produced this roll call: Laura Dutter-Nelson — No; Brian Beardsley — Abstain; Doug Verdegan — Yes; Linda Zimmer — Yes; Lana Nelson — Yes; Jennifer Heath — No; Ted Alberson — No. Because the votes produced no majority, the motion failed.
After continued discussion the board later passed a motion by Ted Alberson, seconded by Lana Nelson, to adopt the 2024–25 budget as presented on a 7-0 roll call. At the same time the board also approved a separate motion requesting administration investigate and respond to public concerns about the 4YK staffing situation.
