District sets new-teacher orientation dates and sessions for early August

Jennifer Sutton, who presented the new-teacher orientation plan, told the board the district would host orientation sessions on Aug. 5 and 6 at the Cunningham Research Center and on Aug. 10 at Kinston High School. "Our new teacher orientation will be held this week on August, 5th, and 6th, and then Monday, August 10," she said.
Sutton outlined the agenda: district mission and expectations, beginning teacher support, payroll guidance, classroom management training with the North Carolina new teacher support program, MTSS and sessions on digital learning tools. The district invited board members to greet new teachers during the opening and to attend an Aug. 10 luncheon to welcome the cohort. Staff said the orientation is intended to give new hires concrete tools and contacts before classes begin.
