City staff to tackle General Plan 2047 in-house; planning commission and code enforcement updates set for fall

Community development staff told the council on Aug. 4 that the city's General Plan has lapsed (expired two years ago) and that a full consultant-led rewrite could cost about $1,000,000. "If you were to hire a consultant to come in and do it...it would be 1000000 dollars," the City Manager said, explaining why staff are relying on in-house work by Juliana to move the General Plan 2047 project forward.
The manager and the community development director also said they are preparing updated bylaws and ordinances to reconstitute the planning commission and will present code-enforcement policies and procedures targeted for October–November. The community development director said building-code standards and substandard apartment housing have driven code enforcement to the top of his department's priorities.
