Public works: water main breaks, tower plans and lead-and-copper testing update

Public Works Director John Tolan told the board the village experienced another round of water main breaks on Highway 15 and outlined a plan to switch remaining affected residents to repaired services. Trustee Robert (Bob) Kaiser said Village Engineer Tim Pruett is working with TWM to prepare water-tower plans for review by Pruett and Tolan.
Tolan also reported the village completed lead-and-copper sampling of 40 sites and discussed the results and regulatory requirements. According to the minutes, he said the village is now required to test schools and daycares every two years. The minutes do not provide the numeric results of the sampling or any immediate remediation steps; any follow-up actions or required reports to IEPA (Illinois EPA) would be handled by staff and recorded in future committee reports or meeting minutes.
Village Administrator Matt Trout said the village has been receiving numerous water/sewer credit requests; Trout, Jane (staff) and Tolan will draft parameters and bring a proposed ordinance or policy to legal/ordinance for consideration.
