Mannsville reports heavy water-plant use, filter changes after interconnect closure

The village's water operator, Norm Jones, told trustees at the Oct. 1 meeting that closing a water interconnect has significantly increased plant operations and maintenance needs.
Jones said Ellisburg used about 2.6 million gallons and was billed more than $8,800 during the recent period. He said the plant, which normally runs about 1.5 hours per day, operated nearly nine hours daily while the interconnect was open; staff changed 10 filters after the line was closed and observed additional leaks and wear in the pumphouse. Ron Elmer of P&T is sourcing parts to repair a leak in the analyzer; Jones said repairing the analyzer will require briefly shutting down the pump.
The board discussed whether to seek bids for a replacement tractor and noted the need for pumphouse repairs and parts to restore normal operations. No timeline or cost estimates for the pumphouse repairs were recorded in the minutes.
