Mamaroneck schools honor roughly 20 retirees as board completes routine business

The Mamaroneck Union Free School District Board of Education opened its meeting with a community recognition program and a performance by the Hammocks Chamber Orchestra before moving into official business. Moderator (speaker 2) told the audience the evening would begin by honoring employees with 25 years of service and presenting longer retirement tributes: "So we are going to begin our night of retirement speeches. We have, actually 20 people that we will be celebrating tonight." The program included brief musical remarks and individual tributes from principals and colleagues.

Speakers from multiple schools described lengthy careers and personal impacts on students. Melissa Cruz Gomez, principal at Central School (speaker 13), introduced Michelle Bachar and noted Bachar’s 32-year teaching career, including 27 years in Mamaroneck. Other presenters recognized long service across elementary, middle and high schools, highlighting educators’ mentorship, curriculum work and community programs. The board then returned to business, advancing routine consent-agenda items by motion and taking a first reading of several policy updates. The meeting closed after brief updates on the revised 2026–27 calendar and district athletic accomplishments.
