District launches AP World for 10th graders; about 260 students signed up for year-one offering

The board discussed the rollout of a new AP World course that will be available to 10th-grade students in the coming school year. Superintendent Charles Sampson said the district received MSF funding for year‑one support; about 260 students had signed up for the initial offering, and staff have worked to map scope and sequence and to ensure appropriate staffing.
"We know that we have 260 students signed up for this," Sampson said. Board members asked whether the AP would substitute for the Global Regents exam; the superintendent said he believed AP World would stand in lieu of the Regents requirement but that he would confirm the detail with Jeff (a district administrator) before the work session. The district said it would monitor enrollment, staffing and student supports in year one and revise the program if needed.
