District provides detailed summer facilities update; Hammocks cafeteria will open later than school start

Assistant Superintendent Sylvia Wallach delivered a comprehensive facilities update on summer projects across the district, describing completed demos, ongoing mechanical and electrical work, and timelines for capital projects. Work cited includes a new kitchen serving line at central office, replacement of exterior stairs and a new handicap ramp, flooring and fire-alarm panel replacements at Chatsworth and MAS, and multiple in-house renovations at Murray and the high school.

Sylvia Wallach told the board that the Hammocks cafeteria renovation will not be complete for the start of school and that the project’s substantial completion date is at the end of September. "We were supposed to replace the flooring... but it is interfering with the work going on in the kitchen," she said; for Hammocks, "there is no chance that the cafeteria will be open for the opening of school, so we are moving, we're dividing the gym ... and the other 0.5 of the gym will serve as a cafeteria." The district plans to serve cold meals from temporary serving lines and to keep students’ access to gym and outdoor space while construction is completed.
