Committee backs shorter LabAids science pilot for middle school

The Germantown Teaching & Learning Committee on Aug. 4 recommended that the full board approve a shorter 6–8 science pilot using LabAids materials and kits.
Mysiak said LabAids allows the district to see all units in the resource while providing each grade level roughly five physical kits for hands‑on use, which shortens the on‑site pilot period compared with the 12‑week social studies pilot. "They give us all the resources and they don't charge us anything for it, which is pretty great," he said, explaining vendor support for the pilot.
Staff will use the same evaluation approach as prior pilots — teacher rubrics and student feedback — to compare the new materials with current science resources. The committee approved the positive recommendation by voice vote; the full board will consider the plan at its next meeting.
The motion was presented as a recommendation, not an adoption; any wider rollout would follow pilot evaluation and board approval.
