Mark Trenary opened the July 21 finance committee meeting and introduced council members and department directors. Finance Director Noah Crocker reported that June sales-tax receipts showed a month-over-month improvement: "June was actually positive. So up 3% when we look at year over year comparison," Crocker said.
Crocker noted that despite the June gain, year-to-date collections remain below last year: "when we look year over year full comparison, we're still down 2% when compared to 2025 through June," he said, but added the city is still "tracking ahead of budget." Council members asked technical questions about smoothing revenue assumptions and whether to use a 3–4 year average; one council member cautioned that the committee will watch results closely through July, August and September before changing assumptions.
Committee members said the city’s local economy benefits from regional employers and has shown more stability than peers. No formal action was taken; staff will continue monthly monitoring and bring updates to council if trends worsen.
