Town proposes regrading, water bars and porous pavers to stabilize Spectacle Pond boat launch

Representatives for the town's water department presented plans to stabilize the Spectacle Pond boat launch and regrade the adjacent gravel parking area to slow runoff and prevent sediment from washing into the pond and Gilson Brook. The proposal calls for three timber 'water bars' across the parking grade, riprap dissipation areas, a level concrete spreader and porous pavers at the area of greatest erosion.
"We have...3 strips of timber that we're planning to install. They're called water bars," Kevin Barbera said while describing the proposed stormwater controls. He told commissioners the work can be done in the Oct.16–Apr.14 window recommended by natural‑heritage reviews to avoid impacts to a protected turtle species, and estimated construction would take roughly three to five weeks.
Commissioners asked about staging and stockpile areas, equipment types and the need for robust sediment controls around any material‑staging area. The applicant said material staging would be contained with silt sock and silt fence as needed and agreed to provide additional details on stockpile protections and equipment parking prior to the next hearing.
