PTSA gives $20,000 for district 'Canine Companions' social‑emotional program

Casey Glass, speaking for the PTSA, told the board the PTSA voted at its general membership meeting to approve a $20,000 end‑of‑year grant to the district for a social‑emotional program called Canine Companions. "We worked closely with the administration to make sure that this gift would benefit all students across the buildings," Glass said, describing a program that will bring therapeutic assistant dogs and handlers to each building on a rotating schedule and provide opportunities at the secondary level for students to visit during free periods.
Glass said the PTSA also approved a smaller grant to support student engagement initiatives administered by the district social worker. The board later resolved to accept the PTSA end‑of‑year grants under new business. The PTSA and administration said the program is intended as enrichment and therapeutic support and will be coordinated through the district.
