Board authorizes clerk to research use of Venmo for municipal payments

Clerk Sandy told the board she had attended a tax-collector webinar that suggested Venmo could be an acceptable form of municipal payment. She asked for permission to research legal considerations, potential charges and implementation details; a member moved to authorize the research and the board approved the motion. "The state lawyer said that from what she was gathering from everybody, Venmo was an acceptable form of payment," Sandy said, adding she would verify whether there are any charges or restrictions for municipal accounts.
Board members noted other local entities had accepted similar payments and asked Sandy to report back with options and any costs or restrictions. The motion authorizes staff to explore technical and legal steps needed to accept Venmo or other mobile payment options for taxes and fees.
