The board approved a resolution authorizing and approving a memorandum of agreement (dated 04/28/2026) between the Board of Education and the teachers association and authorized the superintendent to incorporate that memorandum into a formal written agreement and execute it. The board moved and voted 'All in favor' during the meeting.
Erin Bridal, president of the Merrick Teachers Association, addressed the board and thanked district leadership and the negotiating team, calling the process a "significant and positive shift" from past experiences. Bridal said the agreement improves the salary structure for teachers, psychologists, social workers and guidance counselors and will help the district attract and retain qualified educators. Board members publicly thanked the negotiation team and emphasized the collaborative nature of the talks.
Board remarks stressed appreciation for both administration and the union's collaborative approach and framed the outcome as positioning the district well for the next three years.
