Pocono Township commissioners voted to advertise a new full‑time IT manager/digital services administrator position after debating whether to hire the current subcontractor directly.
Supporters of advertising argued it promotes transparency and gives residents an opportunity to apply; supporters of hiring in‑house said the existing contractor has institutional knowledge that could be cost‑effective. The solicitor explained that the board cannot both advertise and hire simultaneously in the way the original motion was written; members amended motions and, in a roll call process, approved advertising for the position. Commissioners said they expect to balance promoting from within with an open recruitment process to identify the best candidate.
The board directed staff to publish the job posting and return with a timeline for applications and the hiring process.
