District reviews property insurance options as market tightens

At the Nov. 20 board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Lesley Austin invited Blake and Travis McDavid of GSM to brief trustees on the current property insurance market for schools and the options available to the district. The GSM representatives outlined pros and cons of different coverages and underwriting approaches and fielded questions from trustees about cost, coverage limits and marketplace availability.
Trustees responded by directing further study rather than selecting a policy at the meeting. The newly formed Finance Committee — to include parents, staff and board members and meeting in December — will examine insurance alongside budgeting and finance issues.
