The Riviera ISD Board voted to renew its general legal services agreement with JCA Law, PLLC on June 18, approving JCA Law as counsel of record with no retainer and billable rates for work.
"I make a motion that we approve the renewal of legal services with JCA Law, PLLC, as general counsel of record," Trustee Becky Gutierrez said. The motion passed with one abstention recorded by Trustee Teresa May and one absence. During executive session the board had discussed a potential contingency-fee arrangement with JCA Law and Guerra LLP related to possible claims about student social-media matters; trustees later postponed a resolution to approve a contingency-fee agreement and a request for expedited Attorney General review until the July meeting.
Ms. Dobson noted the general counsel renewal involves no retainer fee—only rates for counsel. The board will revisit the contingency-fee proposal at its next scheduled meeting.
