Board approves first reading to close Redwood Elementary and shift boundaries

On Nov. 12 the Granite School District Board approved, on first reading, the closure of Redwood Elementary and boundary adjustments sending portions of Redwood to Granger, Stansbury and Wilson elementary schools. The motion, made by Julie Jackson and seconded by Kris Nguyen, passed unanimously.
Board members discussed concerns about an area within the former Redwood boundary that lacks a safe walking route to Stansbury and asked staff to study options for safe pedestrian access. Principals welcoming Redwood students next year were noted by the board as they discussed transition planning and supports for receiving schools.
The motion is part of a broader set of PAC recommendations that include multiple boundary adjustments across the district. Staff were directed to return with additional analysis on walking-route safety as transition plans continue to be developed.
