The Board amended Board Policy DC (LOCAL) at the June 16 meeting to delegate final authority for employment of contractual personnel to the superintendent, allowing the superintendent to hire between board meetings while still informing the board and with contracts subject to approval at renewal.
The minutes show the proposed change deletes language that had given the superintendent sole authority only to recommend and preserves the board's final authority; the new language delegates final hiring authority to the superintendent. Trustee Jerome Dewberry moved to approve the revisions to DC (LOCAL); Trustee Raymond Dodd seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Administrative consideration in the agenda explained the change would allow the district to hire more quickly and potentially secure personnel in a timely manner, with the superintendent generally informing the board when hires occur.
