Seneca County raises one-year dog license fee from $15 to $18 to bolster dog-board revenue

The Seneca County Board of Commissioners approved an amendment to dog license and kennel fees, raising the one-year license fee from $15 to $18. County staff told the board that dog-license revenue has declined while administrative and postage costs have increased since the fee was last adjusted in 2005.
"The dog license fees have not been raised since 2005," the county administrator said, noting that rising postage and administrative expenses and a statewide decline in licensed dog owners have reduced revenue available to the dog board. Commissioners moved and seconded the change and approved the resolution by roll call.
County staff said the fee increase is intended to align revenues with current operating needs for the dog board and associated services; the resolution covers 1-year, 3-year and permanent license categories updated in the ordinance text.
