During its Sept. 5 work session the Wrenshall Board of Education discussed a range of strategic planning topics, including enrollment projections, consolidation correspondence with Carlton, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) procedures.
Director reports opened the session. The board agreed to review real-time Infinite Campus enrollment reports each month after a summer projection showed 343 of 344 expected students attended in the first week. Director Johnson highlighted an MDE grant opportunity that could provide up to $50,000 to expand computer science instruction.
On the consolidation discussion, Chair Carlson said correspondence to Carlton will continue but that the consolidation effort is "parked" pending the seating of newly elected boards in January; the board decided future consolidation letters should be reviewed in-session and signed by all directors.
The board discussed Career and Technical Education processes: members supported developing a district protocol for offsite Construction Class projects to ensure legal agreements, define performance expectations and protect the district and community project hosts. The board authorized the superintendent to seek legal counsel to support the current, imminent offsite project and to create a future protocol for project selection and agreements.
Building and Grounds recommended inviting engineering firm Widseth and another construction management firm to present on asset inventory and funding options; the board also discussed scoreboard fundraising and agreed not to use district funds for installation but to accept donations and keep the fundraising distinct from district money.
The work session items fed into the regular meeting agenda that followed on Sept. 9.
