Wrenshall board approves routine business including opening 4th-grade for open enrollment

The Wrenshall Board of Education on Sept. 9 approved multiple routine items on its consent and action agendas, including a resolution to open fourth grade to new open enrollments and adoption of updates to school handbooks and meal prices.

At the regular meeting the board carried a resolution to open 4th grade and split it into two sections, effective Aug. 13. The motion to introduce and adopt the resolution was made by Ben Johnson and seconded by Nicole Krisak; the recorded vote on Aug. 12 (the minutes included in the packet) shows five voting members in favor and one director absent for that prior meeting where related actions were taken.

The board also approved updates to the School and Wren’s Club handbooks for 2024–25, set adult meal prices for the coming year and approved agreements that include a Jumpstart to Kindergarten arrangement. In addition the board approved the superintendent’s proposed goals for fiscal year 2025 and advanced several policies through the review cycle, moving a set of first-read items toward second readings this fall. Personnel items on the consent agenda — including hires and leaves noted in the packet — were approved as presented.

Finance documents in the packet note that the district scheduled its annual independent audit with Wipfli, LLP. The business office included a multi-page exp./rev. summary and a cash-flow projection prepared as of Sept. 4, 2024, which were accepted as part of routine business. The meeting packet also listed donations and staffing requests that the board accepted or authorized during the session.

The board set future calendar items, including public hearings tied to the Comprehensive Achievement and Civic Readiness Report and the Truth in Taxation hearing on Dec. 10, and adjourned after completing the agenda.
