Tri-County warns municipalities about phishing scams impersonating planning agency

Staff told the commission that several municipalities received scam emails impersonating planning organizations and asking for money to expedite reviews. Andrew Palmer said the commission emailed municipalities to reassure them that official communication will only come from the tcrpc-pa.org domain and that "we certainly won't ask you for any money to expedite or review or anything like that, and we won't ever ask for money through an online portal."
Diane added that municipalities should not pay anyone claiming to be the commission and that the county payment portal is the only channel for processing official review fees. The commission asked members to share the advisory with municipal contacts.
No incidents of funds being lost were reported in the meeting packet; staff asked members to forward any suspicious messages to the commission for verification.
