Terry Connor, superintendent of Sarasota County Schools, said the district will open Welland Park High School in a matter of days, calling it "an exciting chapter in this community, particularly for our South County families." He described the facility as a place to establish a new legacy and to provide comprehensive high school experiences including academics, athletics, arts and career-technical education.
"It's gonna be a great opportunity, not only for a brand new building and walking the halls of a beautiful facility, but, really, an opportunity to establish a legacy," Connor said. He noted the school is opening as Welland Park grows and that the new campus will support academic and extracurricular offerings the community expects.
District leaders presented the opening as part of a broader plan of new programs and facilities launching for the 2026-27 school year. Families were directed to the district newsletter and website for specific opening-day details and school contacts.
