Board adopts annual property tax settlement; county reports 99.66% collection rate at June 30

Jennifer Pike, the county tax collector, presented the annual settlement for fiscal year 2026 and the order of collection for fiscal year 2027. She provided collection metrics, uncollected and uncollectible amounts, and a request to remove certain insolvent personal-property bills from active receivables.
"The Buncombe County regular property, collection rate at June 30 was 99.66% of a regular net levy in the amount of 272,411,000," Jennifer said. She added that the prior year collection rate dipped to 99.54% but staff had recovered roughly $737,000 of previously uncollected amounts during FY2026 and asked to remove $128,297.26 in uncollectible personal-property tax bills identified for tax years 2018–2020.
The board voted to approve the FY2026 annual settlement and adopted the order of collection for FY2027 in separate motions.
