County approves coordination with Southeastern Container on $31.3M expansion, state building-reuse grant participation

"Their expansion will create 12 new full time jobs and investment of $31,300,000," Josh said. He described the request as the county serving as fiscal agent for a pass-through of a $100,000 building-reuse grant and contributing local incentives totaling up to $85,000 as part of a potential $185,000 total incentive package tied to county and state programs.
Josh explained the building-reuse program is typically aimed at rural communities but is being leveraged for adaptive reuse and infill in Buncombe County following population and post-Helene recovery trends. He asked the board to authorize public hearings and manager coordination with Southeastern Container to meet state grant requirements.
After brief discussion, a motion to authorize the county manager to coordinate with Southeastern Container and to participate in the building-reuse grant program was approved; the meeting recorded six votes in favor and one against.
