Board approves negotiated agreements with CWA and Educational Police Officers Association

The Albuquerque Public Schools board on Aug. 5 approved several negotiated changes to collective-bargaining agreements. Todd Torgerson, chief of human resources and legal support services, presented summaries of negotiated changes for the Communication Workers of America (CWA) representing Food & Nutrition Services and the CWA maintenance and operations bargaining unit, and for the Educational Police Officers Association (EPOA).
Torgerson told trustees the district and each bargaining unit met in closed session and had reached mutually agreed terms; board materials included redlines and final copies of the agreements. One board member, Janelle Estorga, recused herself from votes where she identified as a CWA member. The motions to approve the negotiated changes carried on roll-call votes.
Board discussion included comments supporting wage increases and hopes the negotiated changes will help recruit and retain staff during the district's implementation of scratch-cooking and other operational efforts. The board recorded the approvals and directed staff to finalize and implement the agreed terms.
