The board heard an enrollment update and a presentation about class-size and TEA waiver staffing alignment on Aug. 14. Norberto Rivas, chief financial officer, presented the enrollment update; Blanca Cruz, executive director of human resources, outlined staffing and waiver-related options tied to enrollment trends.
Trustees asked administration for proactive strategies. Superintendent Dr. Jeannie Meza-Chavez said she had spoken with the San Elizario city mayor about planned building developments that could affect future enrollment. Board President Eduardo Chavez urged administration to explore all cost-saving options but said school consolidation should be considered only as a last resort. Trustees also asked about revenue sources beyond student allotment; CFO Norberto Rivas described the district's different funding streams included in the presentation packet.
No formal budget decision or waiver approval was made at the meeting; the discussion was recorded as direction to administration to return with options and data.
