County changes vacant AEMT position to paramedic following event staffing concerns

Ambulance Director Kyle Michels told commissioners that June call numbers were lower than usual, but the department logged 27 patient contacts at a major recent event and several volunteer ambulance services assisted. With limited applicants for an open EMT/AEMT position, EMS requested and the board approved changing the vacant AEMT position to a paramedic.
Commissioner Steven Klym moved to change the vacant position from an AEMT to a paramedic; Commissioner Dean Rodne seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The change is intended to strengthen county EMS capability for future large events and routine calls given recruitment challenges.
