Alyssa told trustees the district is pursuing independent banking and has been in contact with the Jefferson County treasurer, OPI officials and a consultant providing examples of other Montana districts that have moved to independent banking.
She also reported a separate operational issue: an intercepted check related to a November payment that was routed through the county bank. She said the district, the county and the payee (Harlow's) are working with insurance to resolve the incident and that stop-payment timing was affected by the county acting as the district’s current bank.
Alyssa offered to provide the board with the MCAs and administrative rules from OPI that govern independent banking and said she could provide a list of contacts and documents to trustees.
