Jason, the presenter, said the most significant handbook change relates to online learning and how students elect to take classes on- or off-campus; study-hall supervision and additional clarifying language for academic integrity and AI were also added. He noted that cellphone enforcement remains a teacher-level responsibility and that middle-school students are not allowed to have phones in class. "We're not doing that. We have some traditional sleeves that are like, just holding socks that they can put it in," he said when describing options for phone storage and enforcement.
The presenter also told the board that hallway cameras now include audio and the handbook was updated to notify students and families of that capability. Board members asked for a date correction and staff confirmed updated names and final edits will be in the final copy. A committee member moved to approve the handbook as written; the board voted and the chair declared the motion passed.
