District reports wide-ranging summer facilities work, new digital HVAC controls added

District staff told the board that parking lots were repaved, roofs repaired, gym floors refinished and rooftop heating units were wired into the building HVAC to allow digital control, among other projects completed over the summer.
Whitehall School District staff summarized extensive summer maintenance and safety work and asked the board to note the improvements before the school year starts.
"We have been really busy this summer with lots of facilities projects," the staff member told the board, listing repaved and relined parking lots, repaired elementary and high-school roofs, more than 60 stucco-hole repairs on the middle school eaves, resealed chem-lab countertops and three gym floors that were refinished. The front doors of the high school were stripped to bare metal, primed and repainted after 19 years, the presenter said.
The staff member also described mechanical upgrades intended to reduce winter failures and manual interventions: about 14 rooftop heater units were connected to the district HVAC so they can be controlled digitally from inside the building. "So we have now connected those to our HVAC system using wires and so so we can digitally control them from inside the building," the staff member said. The board did not debate the report and moved on to personnel items.
The presentation credited district custodial and summer staff by name for their work and noted that some projects — such as the elementary boiler refurbishment — remain in progress. The staff member said the boiler required a new condensate tank after prolonged wear and that the district is “in the midst of refurbishing” the unit.
