Mayor Dowling R. Watford Jr. read a formal proclamation at the June 16 City Council meeting calling a General City Election for Nov. 3, 2026. The proclamation cites the City of Okeechobee Charter, Code of Ordinances Chapter 26 (Elections), and Florida law and sets candidate qualifying to begin at noon Aug. 3, 2026, and end at noon Aug. 7, 2026.
The proclamation also specifies early voting from Oct. 24 through Oct. 31, 2026, at the Okeechobee County Supervisor of Elections Office, and voting hours of 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Election Day. "I, Dowling R. Watford, Jr., as Mayor of the City of Okeechobee, FL do hereby Proclaim and Declare that a General City Election be held on November 3, 2026," the proclamation states. The document notes that three council seats with terms expiring Jan. 4, 2027, will be filled and that the three candidates receiving the most votes will serve four-year terms beginning Jan. 4, 2027.
