Resident asks Kincaid trustees to revisit shipping-container ordinance; item to return to agenda

Linda Burchi, a recent Kincaid resident, told trustees at the Oct. 28 committee meeting that she bought a shipping container she intends to convert into a shed and was unaware the village has an ordinance restricting such containers. "I was not aware that there was an ordinance against this container that they had purchased, not rented," Burchi said.
Trustee Warren responded that the village ordinance currently allows shipping containers only for emergencies such as a house fire or natural disaster and that the committee could not take a binding vote at the committee meeting. Warren said the board would need to consider whether to change the ordinance and suggested adding the topic to the next meeting agenda so a majority of trustees could weigh in. "It is still a shipping container, unless they would revamp the ordinance," Warren said when discussing whether finishing the container to look like a shed would alter its status.
The discussion did not produce a formal motion or vote on changing the ordinance. The board’s next step is procedural: the trustees will place the shipping-container question on the next agenda so the full board can discuss potential ordinance revisions and decide whether to draft an amendment that would allow converted containers under specified conditions.
