Fairfield council votes to support Measures P and Q for November ballot

City staff presented two resolutions asking the council to support placing Measure P and Measure Q on the November ballot. Staff explained Measure P would increase the city's transactions and use tax by 1 percentage point (from 1% to 2%) until ended by voters; Measure Q would place a change on the ballot to convert the office of city clerk from an elected post to an appointive position. Assistant City Manager and HR Director Farbod Perusman told the council staff recommended adopting both resolutions and said staff was available to answer questions.
After brief discussion and no public speakers, Councilman Carr moved to adopt both resolutions, seconded by Councilman Tonneson. The motion passed unanimously. Perusman emphasized that council support does not alter ballot language or outcome — the measures still require voter approval on Nov. 3, 2026.
The council recorded the motion, second and unanimous 'aye' vote; no amendments or reserving of the item was recorded in the meeting minutes.
