Resident asks board to allow longstanding mobile home as accessory dwelling

At the public-comment portion of the Aug. 3 meeting, resident Bob Orange asked the board for permission to leave a mobile home placed on his property about 30 years ago so he and his wife can move into it. Orange said the original board granted permission decades ago and asked to keep the unit in place as a multigenerational accessory dwelling: "I'm here looking for permission to leave it."
County development director Eric Furnace and staff advised the resident to visit the zoning office to determine whether the situation fits new accessory dwelling unit (ADU) provisions. Furnace said the board of adjustment could grant an exception if the lot does not meet ADU rules and offered to visit the property: "If it doesn't fit within the ADU provisions, then the board of adjustment has the authority to take action to grant to allow it to stay." The resident was directed to schedule a site visit and consult zoning staff for next steps.
