School committee adopts updated restraint, seclusion and time-out policy ahead of state deadline

The Cohasset School Committee voted unanimously to adopt an updated policy on physical restraint, seclusion and time-out for students to align district procedures with new state regulations taking effect Aug. 17.
Mister Stapleton, who presented the item at the committee’s second reading, told members "there are minor changes to language" and that district legal counsel reviewed the policy. He said the district will finalize building-level staff training over the next month to ensure procedures match the updated regulations.
Chair Corey Evans moved the item forward for a roll-call vote. Mister McClellan made the motion to accept the updated physical restraint policy (file JKAA, packet updated July 2026) and Miss Leskie seconded. The roll call returned four ayes and the motion passed 4–0.
Committee members did not raise substantive amendments during the meeting; Stapleton said links to the regulations will appear in the policy packet and in the process guide on the district website.
