Superintendent says new finance director resigned; interim posted, hopes to fill by end of August

Superintendent Dr. Shannon told the Cohasset School Committee that the district’s newly appointed director of finance and operations informed her he would resign shortly after starting, and the resignation has been accepted.

"He informed me of his intention to resign from the position," Dr. Shannon said, and she said the district has posted the role for an interim director of finance and operations while it seeks a replacement. Dr. Shannon said she has been in contact with retired finance directors who do interim work and that an experienced interim could provide stability during a school year with "several really big budget related items."

Committee members pressed for timing and operational continuity. Mister McClellan asked when the interim might be in place; Dr. Shannon said she posted the position and "my hope is that we'll have somebody in place by the end of the month," which she clarified in discussion as the end of August. The committee also raised concerns about upcoming transportation start-up and training for new drivers; Dr. Shannon said the transportation manager and staff would handle day-to-day operations and that new drivers are being trained over the summer.

Mister McClellan apologized to the community for the hiring outcome and called three weeks of service by the recently appointed director "not what we were expecting." The committee said district goals remain in place and asked the superintendent and staff for continued communication as candidates are recruited.
