The Amsterdam Common Council approved a consent resolution (25-26-46) to transfer funds to cover a $50,293.70 shortfall for the Esperanza Verde playground in the city's East End. The project’s total construction cost was recorded at $736,206.70, the resolution says, and project backers said the overrun stems from additional concrete and electrical work.
Alderman Maricel thanked the mayor, Representative Paul Tonko and local partners for securing funding and for supporting the park. "This resolution came in 700 over $700,000," she said, explaining the need to move $50,000 from contingency to cover unbudgeted concrete and electrical expenses. Staff and councilmembers discussed the park’s new features, water play schedule and plans for ongoing programming at the site.
