During the public-comment period on the Mountain Mike's Pizza conditional-use renewal, the building owner and the applicant spoke in favor of the permit renewal while at least one resident described safety concerns in the parking lot.
Ehab Youssef, president of East Bayshore Properties and owner of the building at 1765 East Bayshore Road, said Mountain Mike's and its owners have been “absolutely fantastic tenants” and described seeing families and a professional operation during his visits. Applicant Gurpreet Buttar said the restaurant is family oriented and reported that daily beer sales average about $24 — “not even 0.5 percent of the sale we do” — and that alcohol is generally served with food. By contrast, resident Steven Chao said groups gather in the parking lot, sometimes drink there and speak loudly, and that the behavior can create safety concerns for residents and children walking past the site.
Staff noted that the permit includes operational conditions requiring employees to monitor the premises and mitigate complaints such as loitering, littering and noise. The commission considered those factors and approved the permit with staff conditions.
