Town board debates reuse of town-hall solar panels, tables decision

The Maytown Town Board discussed a range of options for solar panels that were taken down from the town hall, hearing staff data on past generation credits and weighing installation and storage costs.
Colleen (board member) said the array "has generated $31,403.64 in generation credits to us," and provided system output figures from 2014–2024 to show the panels' historical contribution. Members raised concerns about inverter costs, roof conditions and whether reinstallation on the pavilion would be cost-effective. S4 (Chair) noted that moving the inverters and reattaching panels would require additional work and space in the pavilion's storage area.
Speakers debated alternatives including building a carport, reselling the used modules to buyers for non-municipal uses, or protecting the panels in storage until a feasible plan emerges. S5 said she had sent the town's data to a vendor that supports second-life uses for used municipal panels and expected to return a set of options next month. The board agreed to "table it till next month" to collect cost estimates and possible bid language before authorizing an RFP or disposal, and asked staff to include options for inverters, storage protection and resale value.
