Comal County releases RFQ seeking medical examiner services amid population growth

Comal County authorized the release of a request for qualifications on Oct. 16 to find certified medical examiner providers capable of delivering turnkey services to meet growing county needs.
Mr. Davila told the court the RFQ is step one in a three-step procurement process: solicit statements of qualifications, form an evaluation team to score and interview candidates, then negotiate with the highest-ranked firm and return to the court for contract authority. He said the process allows for interviews and a scoring matrix to ensure the county selects a provider that can meet local caseloads caused by population growth.
"So typically, when we're looking for services, any kind of professional service... RFQ is an allowable form of solicitation in statute," Mr. Davila said, explaining the procurement steps. The court approved releasing the RFQ by motion.
