Comal County proclaims Franz Heimer historic marker, dedication set Oct. 25

The Comal County Commissioners Court approved a proclamation recognizing a Texas Historical Commission subject marker honoring Franz Heimer and announced the marker dedication for 10 a.m. on Oct. 25 at Meyer Ranch.
County staff read the marker narrative describing Heimer’s 1852 arrival at Indianola, Civil War service, land purchases near Sattler, family history, and the persistence of historic ruins at Meyer Ranch. "Whereas Franz Heimer immigrated to Texas in June 1852 and arrived in Indianola," the proclamation text recited.
Representatives of Crown Community Development and Meyer Ranch and a Heimer family descendant attended. Erica Ramon, speaking for Crown Community Development, said the project had been "a long time in the making" and thanked the court. A family representative, Wilford Slaughter, the great-grandson of Franz Heimer, also attended the presentation and dedication was announced.
The court approved the proclamation by voice vote after a motion and second.
