A motion from the Park Advisory Committee asking the city to review municipal code options to increase restrictions on e-vehicles on public walkways, pathways and parks was placed before council. Councilor Rob noted prior public reports of a safety incident and suggested an interim option—installing speed signage on park paths with a 10-mile-per-hour maximum—to reduce risk while the city undertakes a broader ordinance review.
City staff said the code review will be folded into a larger municipal ordinance overhaul but that council could direct staff to prioritize e-vehicle rules sooner if desired. Council directed staff to prepare a memo describing current municipal code and options for restricting e-vehicles, and to present that memo as the basis for a future workshop discussion on possible ordinance changes, enforcement challenges and signage or permitting alternatives.
